ABSTRACT

The study investigated the Biology Self-Efficacy of Senior Secondary Students in Benin metropolis. Three (3) research questions were raised to guide the study and one was hypothesized. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study consisted of thirteen thousand three hundred and thirty (13,330) students in Benin Metropolis. Two hundred (200) students formed the sample of this study. They were randomly sampled to ensure fair representation.

The instrument that was used for this study was a questionnaire titled “Questionnaire on Biology Self-Efficacy among Senior Secondary Students in Benin metropolis” (BSE R =.77). Data obtained from the instrument was analyzed using frequency count, simple percentage, mean, standard deviation and t-test.

Some of the findings from the study revealed that student have a high level of Biology self-efficacy. The way Biology is taught and the poor exam scores are the factors which negatively affects students Biology self-efficacy. Based on the findings of the study, it is recommended among others that Biology teachers should improve on their teaching methods so that students’ Biology self-efficacy can be heightened.
