ABSTRACT
This study investigates Benin City residents perception of social media journalism in a digital age. The research aims to understand the effectiveness of social media journalism and it's impact on journalism and the audience. The survey research method was adopted using questionnaires to gather data from respondents. The study examines Benin City resident's engagement on social media, perceptions on journalism, and social media preferences considering factors such as credibility, free access to quick news, news gathering and reliability of sources. The findings will provide valuable insights for social media journalistic practices and contribute to the existing literature on effectiveness of social media journalism in the Nigerian context.
