ABSTRACT

This research studies aerobic compost impacts on Plant growth and some physicochemical properties of agricultural soil such as: using Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) seeds. The production process of the compost includes raw materials like fruits vegetables wastes obtained from commercial fruit sellers, which was produced aerobically. The compost characterized and it contained amendment materials (cow bone, corn cob and palm oil sludge) and it revealed the following results, pH(8.78 ± 0.16), Electrical conductivity (2505.03 ± 3.56), Moisture content (19.43 ± 1 22), Ash content (50.42±0.76), volatile matter(49.58 ±0.76),Organicmatter (42.97±0.28), total organic matter (4.93±0.16),Total Nitrogen (1197.70±152.67), Phosphorus (1305.93±281.85), Potassium (50.50±0.04).And that of the unamended compost revealed the following results, pH (7.96 ± 0.00), Electrical conductivity (2316.55 ± 0.25), Moisture content (31.93 ± 2.13), Ash content (20.78 ± 0.02),Volatile matter (79.72 ± 0.02), Organic matter (46.81± 2.48), Total organic carbon (25.12 ±0.59), Nitrogen (84.05 ± 188.65), Phosphorus (618.38 ±20.70), Potassium (125.6 ± 4.40). The compost was then mixed with agricultural (loamy soil) in the ratios 1:1 for the unamended compost & soil, 1:1 and 3:1 for amended compost and soil and the last pot contained only soil(control), and the soil-Compost mixture was 50g in total. Pot experiment was carried out for the period of 15 days and analysis was conducted on Day 3, Day 6 and Day 15 in order to achieve the parameters of interest. Observations from this experiment shows: POT A, POT B, POT C, POT D. With a slight increase pH across all pot, Slight Increase and partial decrease in Temperature, Moisture Content, Volatile matter and Ash Content across all pot. This research gives more insight on the importance of compost application to soil in improving soil's pH, Temperature, Moisture Content, Volatile matter and ash content level and also to create a stable environment for plants.
