ABSTRACT
This work is on the basic clause in Ngwa. A clause is a simple sentence. A sentence is a linguistic unit consisting of two or more words that are grammatically linked. A sentence is a set of words that expresses a complete thought. Typically, a simple sentence (i.e. a basic clause) has its complement, a subject, a predicate and an object. So this study aims to investigate how these complements of simple sentences are patterned and arranged in Ngwa dialect.
The motivation for this work is based on the fact that to the best of my knowledge, no works have comprehensively analyzed the pattern and arrangement of the various components of the Ngwa basic clause. The focus of this work therefore is to conduct an analysis of Ngwa basic clause so as to know how the constituents that make up the basic clause are arranged and patterned. This study will be useful for the teaching, learning and understanding of Ngwa basic clause, as this work can serve as a material for instruction for the study of Ngwa dialect.
