ABSTRACT

This work investigated the level of awareness of the health implication of climate change among undergraduate students of university of Benin, Benin City, Edo state given the rising concern about climate change. Climate change is seen by some experts as “the biggest global health threat of the 21st century. Hence, the need for the research. Three (3) research questions were raised to guide the study.

The study adopted survey research design. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire; it was built around the research question by the researcher and validated by the researcher’s supervisor. Data collected were analyzed using frequency count, percentages, mean and standard deviation.

The major findings of the study are as follows: there is high level of awareness of the health implication of climate change among undergraduate students; students areknowledgeable of the causes of climate change and students have relative positive attitude towards climate change. Based on the findings and conclusions, the following recommendations are made: students are knowledgeable of the causes of climate change. Therefore, students should be included in the fight against climate change. There is high level of awareness among students on the health implication of climate change. Therefore, students should be included in the team of health workers needed to sensitize the public on climate change. And students should stop refuse burning as it has negative effect on the climate.
