ABSTRACT
The study was to investigate Awareness Level and Practices of Safety Procedures and Accident Prevention in Fire Safety Department in UNIBEN and UBTH. Four research questions were raised to guide the researcher.
Descriptive survey design was adopted in this study. A sample size of 22 respondents were selected using the simple random sampling technique. The instrument for data collection was a well-designed structured questionnaire which was validated by the project Supervisor and two other lecturers from the Department of Health, Safety and Environmental education. Collated data was analyzed using descriptive statistical tools such as frequency and percentage tables.
From the data collected in the study, the awareness level of fire safety workers remains a strong factor that determines how effective fire safety practices would be when carried out.Hence, this study investigates the awareness level and practices of safety procedures and accident prevention in fire safety department in UNIBEN and UBTH, and indeed found out that the workers are adequately aware of the basics of fire safety and are also equipped with adequate knowledge about the practices of fire safety. Conclusively, it is important that fire safety workers are adequately aware of the basics of fire safety practices as it is necessary to help them achieve the objectives and purpose of establishing fire safety department.
