ABSTRACT

The study investigated average revision time as predictor of academic achievement among undergraduate students of University of Benin, Benin City. The researcher was interested in finding out the overall average revision time among undergraduate students and whether or not the average revision tome can significantly predict their academic achievement. Four research questions were raised and three hypotheses were formulated and tested in the study. A total sample of 51 respondents drawn through a simple random technique was used for the study. The descriptive survey design method was adopted for the study. The data was collected using a questionnaire as well as the certified true copies of students’ GPAs. After experts’ validation of the instrument, it was pilot-tested for reliability. The instrument’s reliability was determined using the Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) formula and after computation, the correlation coefficient of the instrument was found to be 0.82. This revealed that the instrument used was very stable. The data collected was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. It was found in the study that average revision time significantly predicts the academic achievement of undergraduate students in University of Benin; the average revision time between the male and female undergraduate students of University of Benin is not significant; and that there is a significant difference in average revision time between 100, 200 and 300 level undergraduate students among others. The study concluded that average revision time is an important predictor for academic achievement and that students should not joke with their revision time, because it is the major decision maker for their school achievement. The study proffered a number of recommendations which include the fact that the undergraduate students should maximise their revision time with all forms of seriousness because their academic achievement is dependent on how well their revision time is used, Students in 100 level should devote their time to reading because they tend to use lesser time especially for pre-test revision. This will make them perform better as the newly admitted students.
