ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to investigate the availability of qualified teacher in effective teaching and learning of English language in junior secondary school in Osisioma Local Government Area of Abia State. Four research question were raised to guide the study
The population of the study comprised of two thousand six hundred and twenty-nine students (2,629) in junior secondary school in Osisioma Local Government Area of Abia State. The simple random sampling technique was used in selecting the schools from the twenty secondary schools in Osisioma Local Government Area of Abia State. Forty (40) students were drawn from each school with the use of purposive random sampling technique.
From the finding There are no language laboratories in the secondary schools and harpers effective teaching and learning. Most of the English teachers do not organize practical lessons and they use native language in the class very often to explain certain facts. Workshops and seminars are necessary to update the English teachers already in the classroom. It was recommended that instructional facilities such as a good language laboratory should be provided in our secondary schools to ensure effective language development. The teachers already in the classroom should endeavor to use teaching aids and organize practical lessons for effective learning.
