ABSTRACT
Educational facilities are the physical and spatial enablers which serve as pillars of support for ef ective teaching and learning. The facilities are hinged on school administrators whose neglect of the maintenance of the educational facilities is at the expense of the educational system. This study examined the availability of educational facilities and school administrators’ ef ectiveness in public secondary schools in Egor local government area of Edo state. A survey design was employed and the responses of the respondents were elicited through the aid of questionnaire. 6 principals and 12 teachers from six selected public schools were sampled. The schools cut across small sized school (population less than 500 students) and large schools (population larger than 500 students). Also, the sampled principals are of two categories; less experienced (<10 years) and the more experienced (>10yrs) principals. The descriptive tests were employed to test the research questions while correlation test was used for the hypotheses with the aid of Statistical package for Social Sciences version 22. The result showed that school Facilities are not adequate; the mean value of 47.33 (59.16) is less than the test mean of 50.00 (62.5%). The administrative ef ectiveness is high; the mean value of 52.67 (70.23%) is greater than the test mean of 45.00 (60.0 %). There is a strong relationship (r = 0.517, p= 0.028) between availability of school facilities and administrative ef ectiveness. There is no significant relationship (p>0.05) between availability of school facilities and administrative ef ectiveness based on school size. Though the relationship is stronger for the Large Schools (r = 0.463 > r s= 0.071) than in small schools. There is a significant relationship between availability of School Facilities and Administrative Ef ectiveness based on principals’ experience. The relationship is ix stronger for the more Experienced school principals (r = 0.942 > r = 0.697) than less experienced principals`. The principals should ensure an ef ective administration of both material and human resources in the schools for a better educational development in the state.
