ABSTRACT

     This study investigated the availability and utilization of instructional materials for effective teaching and learning of Economics in senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government. To guide this study, four research questions were raised and answered directly.

       The descriptive study was adopted for this study. The population of this study consists of all the students of Economics in senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government. A sample of hundred (100) students from the five (5) secondary schools in Egor Local Government was randomly selected for this study. The research instrument used to gather data for the study was a Questionnaire titled “Availability and Utilization of Instructional Materials for the Effective Teaching and Learning of Economics in Senior Secondary Schools Questionnaire (AUIMETLESSQ)”. Data collected was rigorously analysed using simple percentage, mean and frequency count.

      The findings revealed that instructional materials for economics available and utilised in secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area is high, meaning there is a significantly positive relationship between the availability and utilization of instructional materials and effective teaching of economics in senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area. The recommendations were; Funding and effective budget allocation towards the availability and effective utilisation of instructional materials should be integrated by schools. Schools should endeavour to secure additional funds from government grants, private donations and community fundraisers and also allocate a specific portion of their of their budget for purchasing instructional materials for the effective teaching of economics. Teacher training should also be provided for teachers on how to effectively use and integrate instructional materials for teaching economics into their lessons.
