ABSTRACT

The study analysed the availability and utilization of digital resources in the teaching and learning of home economics in some selected secondary schools in Ugbowo. Three research questions were raised and two hypothesis were tested at 0.5 level of significance. The descriptive survey research was employed in the study. The study population was all students and teachers learning and teaching home economics in Ugbowo secondary schools. The sample size comprised of eighty (80) respondents. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire which was distributed to the respondents. The instrument was retrieved and analyzed using percentage, frequency, mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions. From the results of the data analysed, the study revealed that a significant proportion of the schools surveyed do not have basic digital infrastructure, including computers and internet access. However, the extent of availability varies, with some schools possessing state-of-the-art facilities while others have minimal resources. The availability of specialized software for Home Economics, such as meal planning apps, nutrition analysis tools, and virtual sewing programs, is limited. Also the proficiency levels of teachers in utilizing digital resources vary significantly. Some teachers are adept at integrating digital tools into their lessons, while others lack the necessary training and confidence to do so effectively. Based on these findings it was recommended among others that, there is need for Schools and educational authorities to prioritize investment in digital infrastructure and resources, ensuring that all students have equitable access to these tools. Regular training programs should be conducted to enhance teachers’ digital literacy and their ability to integrate digital resources into their curriculum effectively. Efforts should be made to integrate digital resources seamlessly into both theoretical and practical aspects of Home Economics, maximizing their potential to enhance learning.
