ABSTRACT
Introduction: According to the definition of inventory management, it is a continuous "process of planning, managing, and regulating inventory" that tries to "minimize the investment in inventory while balancing supply and demand." (West 2009).
Objective: The objectives of this study were to investigate the Availability and Application of Management Software in community pharmacy, determine the Barrier of Using Computer Software in community pharmacy and identify the Software used in Community pharmacy
Methods: A well-structured questionnaire was used to collect data. A cross sectional survey of 350 pharmacists working in registered and licensed community pharmacies within Ugbowo, Sapele Road, Airport road and Ikpoba hill out of the 18 local Government areas in Edo state. The data collected from the survey were entered in Microsoft excel and analyzed in IBM SPSS version 25. Descriptive analysis was performed.
Result: The majority of respondents (73.1%) make use of software in their practice with 34.3% of them using QuickBooks for their inventory software, 143(40.9%) out of 350 respondents replied that inappropriate power supply affects the use of management software in the premise where they practice. About 307(87.7%) make use of mobile software to obtain drug information in their practice with 91.7% of them using Emdex software for drug indication.
Conclusion: Emdex mobile application is the commonly used software for obtaining Drug Indication and Drug Dosage while QuickBooks is the most used inventory application. The limitations of thissoftware include poor network and inadequate power supply.
