AVAILABILITY AND ADEQUACY OF SCHOOLS HEALTH SERVICES

ABSTRACT

This study accessed the availability and adequacy of school health services.. Three (3) research questions guided the study, aiming to find out the available School Health Services in secondary schools in Egor LGA, find the extent the available school health services in secondary schools in Egor LGA adequate and find out if the availability of the component of school health service affect the adequacy in Egor Local Government Area. The Study adopted the Descriptive survey research design. The population of the study consisted of two thousand seven hundred and sixty (2760) SSII students from the 14 senior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area, the simple random sampling technique was used to select 276 students to represent all the students in the 14 senior secondary school in Egor Local Government Area. A structured questionnaire was used to retrieve data from the respondents. Data collected was analysed using frequency and percentage. The findings of the study were as follows; There are various available school health services such as first aid, counselling services, health offices, medical administrations and immunization programs and certain health services, such as immunization programs, physical education, and safety education, are largely adequate in secondary schools within Egor Local Government Area, while sick bay facilities, medication administration, and education on healthy relationships are not adequate. Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made: Schools should invest in improving their sick bay facilities to ensure that they are adequately equipped to handle health issues that arise during school hours and there should be a concerted effort to ensure that schools have the necessary resources and trained personnel to manage medication administration effectively.
