ABSTRACT
This study of augmentatives and diminutives in the Ẹdo language aims to reveal the morphological and semantic complexities of these linguistic features. By gathering a corpus of Ẹdo texts encompassing traditional stories, contemporary literature, and everyday language use, a diverse range of linguistic expressions is captured. Through the identification of augmentatives and diminutives in Ẹdo, known morphemes are investigated to uncover patterns in the formation of these linguistic elements. The significance of this study lies in its contribution to the documentation and preservation of the linguistic legacies of the Ẹdo language, enhancing understanding of morphological processes and linguistic diversity. By comparing findings with existing research, insights into language variation and typological similarities are garnered, validating identified patterns and enriching the understanding of Edo linguistics. The study’s methodology involves a comprehensive morphological analysis to elucidate the formation and usage of augmentatives and diminutives in Ẹdo. The study’s findings aim to identify the distinct patterns in the formation of argumentative and diminutive in the Edo language through morphological analysis, including the prevalence of specific morphemes. Through this exploration, the study seeks to bridge research gaps, provide valuable contributions to Ẹdo linguistics, and underscore the importance of studying linguistic elements for safeguarding linguistic traditions.
