ABSTRACT

The study examined the effect of audit mechanism on sustainable performance in quoted insurance companies in Nigeria. This study used a sample of 20 quoted insurance companies in the Nigerian Stock Group that have consistently published their annual audited financial report for the period of 2013 to 2021. The data collected are analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and multivariate regression technique. The results showed that audit fee exerts an insignificant effect on SP measured by ROA and ROE, audit timeliness exerts a significant effect on SP measured by ROA and ROE, audit quality exerts an insignificant effect on SP measured by ROA and ROE, audit firm rotation exerts a positive and significant effect on SP measured by ROE at 5% level of significance and auditor’s experience exerts an insignificant effect on SP measured by ROA and ROE. The study recommended that management should ensure that audit timeliness would significantly improve SP measured by ROE while adversely affects SP measured by ROA significantly. The study suggested that further studies on audit mechanism and SP in Nigeria by sampling quoted financial companies in Nigeria Stock Group.
