ABSTRACT

Instructional materials are all the objects, things, people and places use to promote the teaching and learning process. This study investigated the use of audio, visual materials and learning outcome of junior secondary school students in
Ovia North East Local Government Area. A survey research design was employed in this study. Three (3) research questions were raised to guide the study. The target population of the study consist of comprises all the junior secondary schools’ social studies teachers in Benin city, Edo state, with sample of total of 28 respondents was selected from the population using the simple
random sampling technique.
A structured questionnaire and hypothesis was used for data collection. The questionnaire was validated by the researcher's supervisor and two other experts in the Department of Educational Management; while the test re-test reliability
method was adopted to ascertain the reliability of the instrument. Data collected were analyzed using mean score rating method.
The study reveals that audio visual learning materials improves the learning achievement of junior secondary school students. It also reduces learning complications, the extent to which cooperation of students taught social studies
using audio-visual aids differ from those taught using chalk and talk teaching process to a great extent. That the extent to which demonstration of students taught social studies using audio visual aids differs from those taught using chalk and talk
teaching process is to somewhat extent.
