ABSTRACT
The study is focused on audience awareness, attitude and strategies of combatting online romance scam and cybercrime among residents of Benin metropolis. The objectives of the study were to find out the extent at which residents of Benin metropolis is aware of online romance scam and cybercrime, to ascertain the attitude of Benin residents towards online romance scam and cybercrime and to determine the strategies that can be adopted to combat online romance scam and cybercrime among residents of Benin Metropolis. In terms of the methodlogy, the survey research method was adopted by the researcher to gather data used for the study. Findings of the study revealed that Benin residents have a negative attitude towards cybercrime and romance scam on social networks. The findings also revealed that the porous nature of the internet is one of the major cause of cybercrime and romance scam. Hence, the researcher concluded that Benin residents are exposed to cybercrime and romance scam on social networks. The researcher therefore recommended that proper regulation and policing of social networks be effected, to help curb the rising menace of cyber crime and online romance scam.
