ABSTRACT

This study examined attitude of care givers attitudes towards care of the elderly in OTOROwhe Community, Isoko North, Delta State. This study adopted survey research design through the administration of questionnaires. The study had six independent variables comprising; psychosocial attitude, gender type, religious attitude, family attitude, stereotype attitude and social works attitude while the dependent variable was care for the elderly. The study had a sample size of Five-Hundred and Seventy-Four (574) which was administered to respondents but 556 questionnaires were returned after administration of questionnaires. The data obtained was analysed using tables, descriptive statistics, correlation matrix and regression analysis through the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) 23 software. The findings revealed that all the independent variables with the exception of social works attitude had positive effect towards the care for elderly in Otor-Owhe Community in Isoko North, Delta State. The study also found that only psychosocial attitude and family type had significant effect towards care for the elderly in Otor-Owhe Community in Isoko North, Delta State. Consequently, based on the findings, this study recommended that care givers should always watch out for psychosocial attitudes in the elderly to enhance care for the elderly also family type attitude as care givers should continue to care for the elderly in Otor-Owhe Community in Isoko North.
