ABSTRACT
The impending retirement of academic staff in Nigerian universities is a crucial aspect of the higher education landscape that requires in-depth exploration. This case study investigates the attitudes of members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) within the Faculty of Education at the Universities of Benin towards retirement programs. As Nigeria's education sector undergoes continuous transformation, understanding how ASUU members perceive retirement and the associated programs is essential for policy development and sustainable faculty transitions. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. A survey questionnaire is administered to a stratified sample of ASUU members, while in-depth interviews are conducted with selected participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of their attitudes towards retirement. The survey captures demographic information, academic backgrounds, and various aspects of retirement readiness, such as financial planning, emotional preparedness, and expectations concerning post-retirement life.
