ABSTRACT

This research delves into the attitudes of women in Benin City towards the campaign against women export on social media. Drawing upon the foundations of social and communication theories, this study seeks to understand the dynamics of how women engage with this critical issue through their online interactions. Findings reveal that a significant majority of women in Benin City actively employ social media platforms for their engagement with the campaign, utilizing functionalities such as sharing photos and facilitating communication with like-minded individuals and information sources. However, despite the widespread use of social media for this campaign, participants reported facing challenges, including issues related to poor network connectivity, the high cost of smartphones, and limited storage capacity. This study highlights the potential for new and improved methods of information dissemination and engagement. As a recommendation, this research suggests that women should be encouraged to further enhance their social media skills to enhance their effectiveness in advocating against women export. Furthermore, it advises that governments and relevant authorities take proactive steps to address infrastructure challenges, such as network connectivity issues, to facilitate more robust online activism on this critical issue.
