ABSTRACT
This study examines the attitude of University of Benin student towards examination malpractice and its implication on effective learning. The primary data were collected from 2062 member of 400L students in the Faculty of Education , University of Benin, Benin city, Edo State. 205 respondents were selected using Simple Random Sampling (SRS) which represent 10% of the total population and questionnaire was administered to them . Four research questions were raised to guild the study. The instrument was validated by 3 experts from the Department of Vocational and Technical Education Faculty of Education . The data collected was analyzed using, mean and standard deviation . The split half method was used to determine the reliability of the instrument. The mean rating of 2.0 was used for decision point such that only items with less than 2.0 was regarded as disagree while mean rating equals or above 2.0 was regarded as agree. It was shown that respondents are aware that there are campaigns against examination malpractice by the Management. It was revealed that frequent strike actions encourage exam malpractice, sexual harassment from lecturers can encourage cheating in exams, extortion of students by lecturers promotes exam malpractice, Poor background of student serves as a major constraint to examination malpractice, and unstable school calendar can lead to examination malpractice. student should me checked before entering into the examination hall, and proper punishment should be made towards any defaulter of examination malpractice. This Study recommended that School authorities, Government and Non governmental organization bodies should sensitize students on the cause and effect of examination malpractice Parent should be sensitize also so as not to put unnecessary pressure on their children. Parents should be discouraged from helping their children in the ungodly act of examination malpractice Examination materials should be well kept to curb leakage of examination materials before the xi examination. Proper punishment should be served for those involved in examination malpractice to serve as lessons to others .All those involved in examination should follow strictly all ideal examination rules and regulations.
