ABSTRACT

The study was to investigate the attitude of pregnant women towards the use of supplementary drugs in tertiary hospitals in Edo State (Using Stella Obasanjo hospital as a case study). Four (4) research questions were raised and literature of other researchers were reviewed.

The study adopted the descriptive survey research design, data was collected through the aid of a questionnaire. The questionnaire was structured according to the research questions and distributed to sample population of 100 respondents.

The findings of the study revealed that many women in Benin metropolis do not use their supplementary drugs even they are ware that taking supplementary drugs does not makes pregnant women feel dizzy or have nausea. Pregnant women do not find it difficult to defecate after taking my supplementary drugs but will rather make their baby stronger and healthier. Taking supplementary drugs everyday even through many of them forget to take their supplementary drugs everyday even though many of them forget to take their supplementary drugs sometimes but they are fully aware of how important it is to the health benefits of supplementary drugs is passed across to pregnant women to help build a positive attitude; government should ensure that the utilization of supplementary drugs is increased among pregnant women by constantly educating and enlightening them; and health professionals Stella Obasanjo Hospital should ensure that they educate the pregnant women visiting the health centre on the importance of using supplementary drugs.
