ABSTRACT
The general purpose of this study is to investigate attitude of junior secondary school students towards Christian religion studies (CRS) in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo state. This study reviewed works of several authors.To guide the study, four research questions were raised which are outlined thus: To find out if the attitude of students towards Christian religion studies (CRS)? influences their study of subject in secondary schools.To ascertain if there are any significant differences between the attitudes of male and female towards the study of Christian religion studies (CRS). To find out if there, are factors that influences students' attitude towards the study of Christian religion studies (CRS). To find out if there are factors that can improve the attitude of students towards the study of Christian religion studies (CRS).
The instrument used for this study is structural questionnaire and it was subject toCronbach’s alpha and a reliability testing method and reliability value of 0.73 was obtained. The data collated were analyzed using the simple percentage and frequency counts.
The following results were obtainedIt was revealed from the results that the majority of the respondents are HND/ B.Sc holder. It is seen that majority of the respondents are self-employed. It is seen that students have nonchalant attitude toward schooling and that absenteeism from school regularly and lack of concentration of students are attitudes exhibited by students towards schooling. From the commendation The findings of the present study are important for Nigerian education system due to the fact that changing academic and attitude of students towards schooling and improving the teaching procedures in the classroom are much easier to achieve than changing background factors affecting students’ performance. The obtained results could serve as a basis for developing a hypothetical model for studying the direct and indirect effects of the afore-mentioned factors on students’ attitude towards schooling.
