Abstract
This research work focused on the Attitude of female Mass Communication students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) towards Print Journalism as a career. The study aimed at finding out the attitudes of female mass communication students towards Print Journalism as a career. Survey method was adopted and the instrument used for data collection was the questionnaire. The information from the administrative unit of the department of Mass Communication states that they are 658 female students in the department. 248 out of the 658 students were sampled using Taro Yamani’s formula. 248 copies of questionnairewere distributed out of which 240 copies were retrieved. Data gathered was analysed in tables and simple percentages. The researcher found out that female mass communication students indeed have negative attitudes towards Print Journalism as a career. Again, it is also revealed that the female Mass Communication students prefer other aspects of Mass Communication to Print Journalism. The study therefore recommends that there should be more social, cultural and workforce encouragements and creation of more opportunities to encourage larger participation of female practitioners in the field. Also there should be fair treatment to both male and female print journalists at the media houses.
