ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to establish the attitude of coastal dwellers toward environmental sanitation in Ogbese community in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo state. Four research questions were raised to guide the study.
The descriptive survey research design was used in conducting the study. using relevant literature from journals, magazines, books and the internet. A sample size of one hundred and two residents of Ogbese community in Ovia North East Local Government Area. The sample was drawn using the purposive sampling technique. A self-structured questionnaire was used to collect data for the study. The questionnaire was validated by the research supervisor and two experts in the Department of Health, Safety and Environment Education. Reliability was established using spilt half method and a correction coefficient of 0.78 was obtained. Data collected from the study was analyzed using frequency counts and percentage.
The result revealed that coastal dwellers in Ogbese community have high knowledge of environmental sanitation, coastal dwellers in Ogbese community have positive attitude towards waste management, environmental sanitation is beneficial to coastal region, and there are some health-related problems associated with poor environmental sanitation in Ogbese community. Based on the results, it was recommended among other things that educational campaign on litter reduction strategy should be conducted.
