ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR INCLUSIVE EDUCATION IN AFRICA

ABSTRACT

This research highlights the importance of assistive technology in promoting inclusive education in Africa. Inclusive education aims to provide equal educational opportunities for all students, including those with disabilities or learning difficulties. However, various barriers hinder the full participation and academic achievement of students with diverse needs. This work explores the potential of assistive technology as a means to overcome these barriers and foster inclusive practices in African educational settings. Assistive technology refers to devices, tools, and software that support individuals with disabilities in performing tasks, accessing information, and participating in educational activities. This technology can include communication aids, mobility devices, sensory enhancements, and specialized software applications. By leveraging assistive technology, students with disabilities can actively engage in the learning process, access educational materials, communicate effectively, and develop essential skills. Moreover, this project highlights the potential benefits of assistive technology in inclusive education, such as improved learning outcomes, enhanced student participation, increased independence, and empowerment of learners with disabilities.
