ABSTRACT

Global Technology has equipped various aspects of human life, hence in biomedical studies we can speak about Assisted Reproductive Technology such as in vitro fertilization, Surrogacy, and it's likes, however there were various methods used in traditional times that are still being used side by side around the globe with the modern medical practices especially in Africa. This Work sets out to show that before the advent of Assisted Reproductive Technology and other methods of modern medicine, Africans have their own traditional methods of dealing with the issue of infertility as well as other health challenges they faced. However, it also acknowledges the tremendous benefits of modern medicine, and it's instrumentality towards solving the problem of infertility among patients all over the world making healthy living and most importantly child bearing possible. This work hopes to show that a synergy between the African methods of medical practices and the modern medical practices in an attempt to curb infertility and other medical challenges.

It concludes that the African biomedical methods crystallizes basic dimensions of the African value system for life, family, childbirth, nature and an emphasis on this will impact positively on the dimensions of contemporary orthodox medical practices.
