ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study is to assess the programming skills possessed by a computer science student for self-employment. The population of the study comprises a sample of a total of 153 computer science students the University of Benin, Edo State. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire which contained 27 questions. The data collected was analyzed using frequency table. The result of the analysis shows that the students in computer science education lack the necessary programming skills needed for self-employment in Edo State. Based on the findings of the study, conclusions were drawn and 3 recommendations were proposed on how to better the above-mentioned problem.
