ABSTRACT

This study unveils the intricate connection between environmental pollution and economic development in the Etsako region. Through rigorous methodology, demographic analysis of respondents enriches our understanding of their characteristics and viewpoints on pollution's economic impact. The study encompasses variables such as Age, Gender, Educational Level, Employment Status, and Residential Area. In terms of Age, the research reveals a prominent cohort within the "26-35 Years" category, constituting 50% of the sample. Moreover, the "46-55 Years" group represents 15%, while the "18-25 Years" category constitutes 20%. This distribution accentuates the engagement of individuals in their late 20s and 30s, implying heightened awareness of contemporary issues including environmental matters. Their active involvement potentially shapes forthcoming policies on environmental protection and economic growth. Examining Gender, the study uncovers a male majority, comprising 60% of respondents, while females constitute 40%. This gender distribution signifies a predominantly male sample, possibly influenced by factors such as career commitments, differing awareness levels, and personal motivations for study participation. Regression analysis confirms a negative impact of pollution on economic development, aligning with existing research. Participants' voices underscore concerns about pollution's far-reaching effects. The study concludes that environmental pollution indeed hampers economic progress. Recommendations for mitigating these impacts span regulatory fortification, sustainable practices promotion, and comprehensive awareness campaigns. The success of these recommendations relies on collaborative efforts, ensuring substantial and lasting transformation.
