ABSTRACT

Inorganic chemicals and microorganisms are very common in human environment and high level poisoning from the chronic effects had occasionally occurred. This study examines the quality of some selected boreholes as it relates to the health of the inhabitants of the area under investigation. Water samples were collected from three different boreholes and wells round Ebelle community and subjected to physical and chemical analysis. The results were compared with WHO standard. It was discovered that almost all of the parameters investigated were within the WHO standards. Except for pH in the six samples were slightly acidic, ranging from 6.17 - 6.95. The levels of iron, calcum, magnesium and copper in all the samples were within WHO permissible limit. The concentrations of Cadmium and Lead in all the samples were below the detection limit of the equipment used and they were adjudged Not Detected (ND). This shows that apart from the borehole water of sample (3) which is very acidic above the permissible limit , others are clean and fit for consumption as the parameters analyzed fell below permissible limit.
