ABSTRACT
The study determined the assessment of utilization of instructional material for effective teaching and learning of basic technology in junior secondary school in Benin metropolis, Edo state. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study. The population comprises of four hundred and fifty students (450) from the three junior secondary schools in Oredo LGA. The instrument for the study was a self-structured questionnaire. Three research questions were raised and one hypothesis was formulated to guide this study. The instrument was validated by researcher’s supervisor and one other expert in Educational Evaluation and Counselling Psychology (EECP), the corrected some of the questions in questionnaire which was effected. The reliability of the instrument was ensured by using Cronbach Alpha statistics reliability which was used to compute the data collected in a reliability score of 0.81 was obtained. Computation which yielded a co-efficient index of 0.81. The findings of the study showed that student who were taught with instructional materials perform better Than those who were not taught with instructional material. The study recommended that more instructional material should be made available to enhance the teaching and learning of basic technology. It was also recommended that basic technology teacher should be trained and retrained to increase the knowledge and ensure adequate and appropriate usage of instructional material.
