ABSTRACT
This study was carried out on the assessment of unemployment rate under buhari administration (2015 to 2022). Specifically, the study the factors responsible for unemployment under Buhari administration, find out the effect of unemployment under Buhari administration, investigate the activities and programmes of the Buhari administration in its efforts to tackling unemployment problems in Nigeria and recommend a way forward in reducing the rate of unemployment in Nigeria. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 141responses were validated from the survey. From the responses obtained and analyzed, the findings revealed that the factors responsible for unemployment under Buhari administration includes: corruption, neglect of agricultural and other natural resources, poor quality education and a lack of working skills. The study also revealed that the effect of unemployment under Buhari administration includes: high levels of poverty, affects the disposable income of families, reduces an economy's output and Increase in insecurity. The study further revealed that the activities and programmes of the Buhari administration in its efforts to tackling unemployment problems in Nigeria include: introduction of N-power programe, introduction of O-yes programe, low interest loans for entrepreneurs and introduction of youth employment action plan. Finally, the study revealed that the way forward in reducing the rate of unemployment in Nigeria includes: creating new job opportunities, driving innovation, skill development and boosting human capital - education and training.. The study thereby recommend that though government may not be able to create job enough for the teaming millions of Nigerian unemployed youths, they should therefore embark on massive youth development programmes in all the states of the federation with entrepreneurial skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development as a key target hence a viable intervening tool for unemployment.
