ABSTRACT
The study assessed the tree species population in Ogba Zoological Garden, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria (latitude 6º17ˈN and 57º37ˈN and longitude 5º35ˈE and 45º63ˈE). The total size of the plot measures 300m x 50m and was then delineated into 6 blocks measuring 50m x 50m each. A stratified random sampling technique was used, and four of the six blocks were chosen. Each block was further divided into 25 plots measuring 10m x 10m. 5 sample plots were randomly selected from each block. In each plot, all tree species (≥15cm dbh) were identified and their heights and diameter were measured at breast height (1.3m). One hundred and ninety-seven individuals belonging to 25 species, 20 genera, and 10 families were inventoried. Pentaclethra macrophylla had the most abundant tree stands (22) followed by Allanblackia gabonensis (18). The most dominant families were Fabaceae, Meliaceae and Ebenaceae.
