ABSTRACT

This research work was carryout to examine The Assessment of the Use of Social Media in Teaching and Learning of Biology in Secondary Schools. Four research questions were raised to guide these studies which are: Do you use whatsapp for Teaching of Biology? Do you use whatsapp for Learning of biology? Do you use Twitter for Teaching Biology? Do you twitter used for the Learning of biology? The study employed the survey research design. Simple random Sampling technique was employed in selecting students that were respondents from the Public Secondary Schools in Ovia North - East Local Government Area Edo State. The research instrument used to collect data for the study was a structured questionnaire. The instrument was validated by the supervisor and distributed to the selected schools and was analyzed using statistic mean and standard deviation. Based on the result of the findings of the study. It was discovered that whatsapp, whatsapp is also use for Learning of Biology, in other cases, Twitter is not a social media source for Teaching Biology, and it also not use for the learning of Biology. It was recommended that Students should be taught on the best ways of using social media for learning, A proper education and awareness campaign should be carried out by the parents and all institutions involved. And Abating the negative issues associated with the 10 draw backs or improper usage of social media which can only be established if basic knowledge and background material is available, and the students are well taught and informed on how best to engage learning using social media as it relates to their academic performances.
