Summary

This study was designed to assess the strategies for widening women’s participation in skills development programmes in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State

In order to achieve the purpose intended for the study, five research questions were raised to guide the study. The questions raised and examined include:

  •         What are the various skills for widening women participation in skills development programmes?
  •         How does cultural norm impact women's decision-making processes in pursuing skill development opportunities in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta state?
  •         How effective are incentives in attracting women of Isoko South Local Government area to participate in skills development programmes? 
  •         What are the mechanisms in place to ensure the quality of skills training offered to the women of Isoko South Local Governent Area of Delta state?
  •         What role can technology play in enhancing access to skills development programmes in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta state?

One hundred and fifty (150) respondents were sampled from the population using the Simple random sampling techniques. Five communities such as Oleh, Irri, Okpolo, Emede and Ozoro were randomly selected for sampling from Isoko South Local government area. Thirty women each were sampled from each of the communities.  Reliability index of the instrument was 0.62 using Person product-moment statistical formula from data of the pilot study carried out on it. The data collected were analysed using frequency count, simple percentage, and mean score analysis. The results obtained from the analysis were quite revealing and instructive.
