ABSTRACT

            This study was carried out to Assess the Sources of Occupational Stress Among University Lecturers, 4 research questions were raised to guide the study. The descriptive survey research method was used in the study. The population of the study was 1896 Lecturers in the University of Benin, Benin city (2019/2020) Academic Session (Academic Planning). University of Benin consists of 15 faculties, from which a simple random sampling technique was used to get the 50% of the faculties which is 7 faculties, And systematic sampling  technique was used to select 2 Departments from each of the 7 faculties, which was 14 Departments.

        Purposive sampling technique was used to select 14 Lecturers from each of the 14 departments to get a sample size of (196), this represents 10.3% of the total population. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire of 20 items. The data obtained were analyzed using Frequency, Counts and Simple Percentage.

The study revealed that the sources of Occupational Stress Among University lecturers includes Delivery of lectures to more than (200) students without the use of public address system, It is also revealed that the state of lecturers office/facility such as unavailability of air conditioner or unavailability of fan is a source of occupational stress among university lecturers

        The researcher recommend some stress coping techniques adopted by university lectures, as well as creating awareness on the health implications associated with poor management of occupational stress and the possible ways university management can help reduce occupational stress which include, Giving workers opportunities to participate in decisions and actions affecting their jobs, Providing opportunities for social interaction among lecturers and management
