ABSTRACT

This study investigated the Assessment of the roles of SBA Stakeholders in the Implementation of SBA in Benin Metropolis, Edo State. To guide the study, four (3) research questions were raised. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. The population of this study consisted of 1562 (one thousand, five hundred and sixty two thousand) public secondary school teachers from the entire 47 (forty seven) public secondary schools in Benin Metropolis. 319 (three hundred and nineteen) public secondary school teachers formed the sample size. The instruments used for the study was a questionnaire titled Assessment of the roles of SBA Stakeholders in the Implementation of SBA in Benin Metropolis. The instrument was validated by the researcher supervisor and two experts in the department of Education Evaluation and Counseling Psychology. Cronbach Alpha Statistics was used to establish the reliability which gave the values of .811, .711 and .811 respectively. Data were collected and analyzed using descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation which was used to answer the research questions. The findings revealed that: public secondary school teachers have a high level of participation in their role as stakeholders in the implementation of SBA, parents as SBA stakeholders play a crucial role in the implementation of SBA, the role of school chief inspectors is to provide professional guide and linkage between the schools and the policies of the ministry of education. Based on the findings, it was recommended, that public secondary school teachers should be encouraged to attend trainings, workshop seminars on SBA for professional development and sensitization, parents need attend Parent's Teachers Association meetings regularly (PTA) and school inspectors should be well trained by the Government in areas concerning inspector-teacher relationship to enable them relate effectively in implementing SBA.
