Abstract
The study investigated the level of job satisfaction and motivation among adult literacy facilitators in Oredo local government area of Edo State. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, 5 research questions were raised. A descriptive survey research design was employed as the design of the study. The target population consists of ninety-two (92) adult literacy facilitators in Oredo local government area of Edo State. A total sample of ninetytwo literacy facilitators was used for the study. They were selected using the census sampling technique. A self-structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The questionnaire was validated by the researcher’s supervisor and two other experts in the Department of Adult and Non Formal Education while the Cronbach’s alpha reliability procedure was adopted to ascertain the reliability of the instrument. After the pilot test, the instrument’s reliability coefficient was found to be 0.70. The study reveals that the level of job satisfaction among adult facilitators is low in Oredo local government area of Edo state; and that there are inadequate salaries for adult literacy facilitators among others. Based on the findings and conclusion reached in the study, a number of recommendations were made to include the fact that the adult literacy facilitators should be adequately remunerated as this will go a long way to motivate them to do their jobs effectively and that appropriate appraisal should be carried out to enable adult literacy facilitators perform their job and to have the feeling of recognition by those in authority.
