ABSTRACT

The study determined the level of awareness of financial technology among business education undergraduates in universities in Edo State. Five research questions were raised to guide the study. The study employed the descriptive survey research design. The population of this study consisted of three hundred and seventy one (371) business education students from 100 to 400 level in the Department of Vocational and Technical Education, University of Benin. The sample size was made up of 100 business education students in the Department of Vocational and Technical education. The instrument used for data collection for this study was a structured questionnaire titled, Assessment of the Level of Awareness of Financial Technology Among Business Education Undergraduate Students in Universities in Edo State Questionnaire. ( ALFAFTABUEQ) . It was however subjected to face validity by the researcher’s supervisor and two other experts in the Department of Vocational and Technical Education. To establish the reliability of the instrument that was used for the study, the internal consistency method was employed by using Cronbach alpha formula. The instrument was administered to 20 students who were not part of the study population. However, the instrument yielded an alpha value of 0. 88. The data collected were analyzed using mean (×) and standard deviation (SD). The findings of the study revealed that there is a high level of awareness of financial technology among business education undergraduate students in universities in Edo State. It was concluded that financial technology is a growing field, and that contrary to previous years’ observation, there is a rising increase in the level of awareness of fintech.it was however, recommended that schools should proceed from basic to complex when teaching fintch related courses and that ethical areas of fintech should be taught so as to ensure that students channel their knowledge of fintech to positive things.
