ASSESSMENT OF THE LEVEL OF AWARENESS OF FINANCIAL TECHNOLOGY AMONG BUSINESS EDUCATION UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS IN UNIVERSITIES IN EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

This study assessed the level of awareness of financial technology among business education undergraduate students in universities in Edo state. From the general objective, five specific objectives and five research questions were raised to guide the study. Four null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance.

This study made use of descriptive survey research design. The population comprised 484 and out of this, 121 which is 25% of the total population was selected using proportionate sampling technique. Questionnaire was the instruments used for data collection and it was subjected to face validity by the researcher’s supervisor and one other expert in the Department of Vocational and Technical Education. The reliability of the instrument was determined using 20 Business Education students who were randomly selected and not part of the study population. However, an alpha value 0.75 was obtained. The data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and two sample independent t-test. The mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while the two sample independent t-test was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance.

The findings of the study showed that there is a significant difference in the level of awareness of financial technology among Business Education undergraduate students based on institution and gender, and there is no significant difference in the level of awareness of financial technology among Business Education undergraduate students based on course option and class level. From the findings of this study, it was concluded that the level of awareness of financial technology among Business education undergraduate students in universities in Edo state is relatively high. And this is irrespective of their institution, gender, course option and class level. It was recommended among others that, Business education students who want to improve their skills and talents should not wait for anyone to compel them to learn the necessary skills needed in the world of work.
