ABSTRACT

This study investigates the impact of technology on the teaching of English Language in senior secondary schools in oredo local government area of Edo state. With the increasing integration of technology in education, it is essential to examine its influence on the teaching of English Language. This research aims to explore the effectiveness of technology in enhancing student engagement, improving language skills, and facilitating teacher instructions.

The study employed a quantitative approach. The population of the study consists of 30 English language teachers in public secondary schools in Oredo local government area of Edo state. The purposive sampling technique was used. A total of 10 secondary schools from Oredo local government area were selected making a number of 3 teachers from each school. A survey questionnaire was administered to a sample of English Language teachers in public senior secondary schools in oredo local government area of Edo state.

The findings reveal that technology has a significant positive impact on the teaching and learning of English Language, particularly in areas such as:

Enhanced student engagement and motivation

Improved language skills, including reading, writing, and communication

Increased access to educational resources and materials

Facilitation of teacher instruction and feedback

However, the study also highlights some challenges and limitations, including:

Inadequate infrastructure and technical support

Limited teacher training and proficiency in using technology

Overreliance on technology and potential distractions

The study recommends that schools and educators prioritize the integration of technology in English Language teaching, provide adequate training and support for teachers, and ensure responsible use of technology to maximize its benefits. The findings of this research contribute to the ongoing discussion on the role of technology in education and provide insights for educators, policymakers, and researchers.
