ABSTRACT

The survey shows that a considerable proportion of road traffic accidents are caused by highway alignment and traffic characteristic.  Now, improving road traffic safety and reducing the rate of road traffic accidents has become quite an urgent problem. This paper probes into factors affecting road traffic safety from the perspective of highway alignment , operating speed and traffic characteristic In addition, analyzing the relevance between road parameters and the level of traffic safety by using generalized linear regression model. The analysis was made in two ways, first between the geometric features that represent a section and Accident Rate and second between the combinations of the geometric features and Accident Rate. Data collected for the analysis were obtained from design and Crash report documents have shown different characteristics

This research also provides the basis and technical support for road safety design and also makes suggestions for the improving of road accident-prone sections.
