ABSTRACT
This study focused on the assessment of the effect of flooding on the livelihood of rural households in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria. The specific objectives were to; describe the socio-economic characteristics of the rural households, identify the livelihood activities of the rural households, identify the causes of flooding, assess the effect of flooding on the livelihood of rural households and determine the coping strategies of flooding to rural households in the study area. A two stage sampling procedure was employed to obtain 100 households for the study. Primary data for the study were obtained from various households with the use of structured questionnaire. A total of 100 copies of questionnaire with a response rate of 83.33% (120) were found relevant for the data analysis. The data collected were subjected to both descriptive and inferential statistics. The descriptive statistics used were frequency counts, percentages and mean, while the inferential statistics applied Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC).
