Assessment of the causes of premarital sex among secondary school students in Oredo local government area

Summary

This study was carried out to assessment of the causes of premarital sex among secondary school students in Oredo local government area. Threes research questions were formulated to keep the study in focus. The descriptive survey research method was employed in the study. The population for the study was a total of 1,752 from which a random sampling technique was use to select 175 senior secondary school students for the study. The instrument for data collection was a selfconstructed structured questionnaire of 20 items. The data obtained were analysed using frequency count and simple percentage, based on the analysed data and results obtained the findings are summarized according to the objectives as presented below:- There is a good level of knowledge on the causes of premarital sex among secondary school students in Oredo LGA of Edo State. The effects of premarital sex among secondary school students in Oredo LGA is quite enormous including contracting sexually transmitted infections (STIs), unsafe abortion and low self-esteem, among others 40 Lastly, on the extent to which the secondary school students engage in premarital sex the study found that the students under study practice premarital sexual practice such as virginal sex, oral sex, and anal sex.
