ABSTRACT
The study assessed theawareness of mass media channels agricultural information dissemination in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Areas of Edo State Ikpoba Okha has 58 communities. A total of three hundred and forty eight (348) copies of questionnaire were administered The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency counts and percentages as well as mean. The results revealed participation of more female (56.9%) in farming than males (43.1%), 40.5% of the female farmers were within the age bracket of 41-50 years and majority were married people (71.3 %) with household and farm size of 8-11 people (51.7%), and farming experience 6-15 years (40.8%) with their highest educational qualification being B.Sc. (57.5%). They were mostly Christians (81.6%) who claimed farming as their primary occupation (52.6%), 39.4%, and 24.4% subscribed to the effectiveness of radio, and television respectively. The study revealed that radio was preferred (37.9%) and 79.6% of the farmers get very regular technology 91.7% of the farmers testified that mass media has impact on their agricultural performance. The relationship between the hypothesis tested in this study were positively signed in age, educational level, farm size and negatively signed in farming experience, household size and primary occupation as well as seedlings, fertilizer application, spacing, and pest/ disease control did not show significant difference with the awareness of mass media source of getting agricultural information. The result study conclude that the farmers were aware and patronizes radio and television more than other type of mass media. A wider use of internet facilities together agricultural information since most of them are literate; as well as proper timing and broadcasting of agricultural programs were recommended
