ABSTRACT
This study assessed the available resources that are needed for implementing adult eduation programmes. It aimed to determine the resources needed for a successful implementation of adult education programme. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, five research questions were raised and answered.
The design adopted for the study is the descriptive research design which provided the researcher the opportunity to conduct a general assessment of opinions, attitudes or feelings of respondents. The population was drawn from five (5) literacy centers, University of Benin lecturers and postgraduate students and in all, 72 respondents were involved. The census sampling technique was used due to the small size of the population. The research instrument that was used for data collection was a questionnaire titled “Resources for the Implementation of Adult Education Programme” (RIAEPQ)” which was validated by the project’s supervisor and two other experts from the department of Adult and Non-Formal Education. The instrument was pilot-tested in a sample of 20 respondents who were not part of the study sample to determine the reliability of the study. The method of data collection was through the administration of the instrument to the respondents. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics which will involve the use of frequency counts, simple percentages, mean score and standard deviation.
The study revealed that they are no adequate resource available for the effective implementation of adult education programme in Egor local government area of Edo State.it also shed light on some challenges faced generally in the field of adult education with lack of finance or funding being pre dominant, also government gives little to no attention to adult education in the state.
Based on the findings of this research study, the following conclusions were reached; there are no adequate resources available for the implementation of adult education programmes in Egor local government area of Edo state. The available resources are relatively utilized to a large extent, for the implementation of adult education programme in Egor Local government area of Edo State. It is recommended that adequate resources that is both human and material resources should be made available to ensure the effective implementation of adult education programmes. Also the government should pay adequate attention to adult education programmes.
