ASSESSMENT OF THE AVAILABILITY AND UTILIZATION OF E-LEARNING TECHNOLOGY IN BUSINESS EDUCATION PROGRAMMES IN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES IN EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

The study assessed the availability and utilization of e-learning technology in business education programmes in public universities in Edo State. Four research questions were raised to guide the study. The study employed a descriptive survey research design. The population of this study comprised ninety (90) final year Business education students. The sample size of this study was made up of twenty (20) final year Business education students. The instrument that was used for data collection was a structured questionnaire and it was validated by two experts in the Department of Vocational and Technical Education, Cronbach Alpha Statistics was employed to measure the level of consistency of items to give a coefficient of 0.781. The findings generally showed that the extent of availability and utilization of e-learning technology in business education programmes in public universities is low. The major findings are that in business education programmes, the extent to which e-learning technology is available and utilized is low. The findings of this study also revealed some of the challenges of incorporating e-learning technology in business education programmes and also the strategies that can enhance the incorporation of e-learning technology in business education programmes in 11 public universities in Edo State. Based on the findings, it was concluded that the availability and utilization of e-learning technology in business education programmes is low due to certain factors challenging the incorporation of e-learning technology in business education programmes. It was recommended that curriculums that integrate e-learning tools and resources be designed so that learning experiences are enhanced it was also recommended that faculty members and students be encouraged to engage in research and innovation related to e-learning in business education. It was recommended also that the government and the Institutions should invest financially in the provision adequate e-learning technology in business education programmes in order to improve efficiency and effectiveness in achieving the goals and objectives of business education programmes in public universities in Edo State.
