ABSTRACT

In tropical Africa, the Azanza garckeana plant is a significant source of food and herbal medicine. The objective of this study was to review the nutritive value, phytochemicalcomponents, ethnomedical applications, and confirmed pharmacological activities of A. garckeana. The broad literature review found that A. garckeana's ripe fruit carpels are edible and frequently utilized as food additives throughout the species' distributional region. At least 22 human diseases and afflictions are also traditionally managed or treated using Azanza garckeana. The species is used as a herbal remedy for conditions and illnesses include chest pains, cough, infertility, liver problems, menstrual disorders, and STDs. Alkaloids, amino acids, ascorbic acid, carotenoids, cyanogenic glucosides, flavonoids, lipids, phenols, saponins, and tannins are only a few of the several groups of compounds that have been discovered. Garckeana, A. An extensivespectrum of pharmacological actions, including antibacterial, antifungal, antihyperglycemic, antimalarial, antioxidant, and iron absorption, are demonstrated by pharmacological research on A. garckeana. For explaining its chemical, nutritive, and toxicological capabilities, Azanza garckeana is deserving of becoming the topic of thorough scientific study.
