ABSTRACT
This study is an assessment of the abuse of the elderly and social work intervention strategies in Benin Metropolis, Edo State. The study considers four objectives the impact of social work intervention strategies on the wellbeing of the elderly in Benin Metropolis; assess whether social work intervention strategies can enhance livelihood support activities of the elderly in Benin Metropolis. Examine whether social work intervention strategy can reduce physiological challenges faced by elderly in Benin Metropolis; ascertain whether social work intervention strategies can help to manage maltreatment/neglect of the elderly in Benin Metropolis. The study adopted theory of ageing and attitudes to ageing. The study adopted the percentage and chi-square to analsye the data collected, the result revealed that food consumption pattern affects the well-being of Elderly in Egor Local Government Area. The study undergoes a survey design which was employed to source data from a sample of 400 respondents from Benin Metropolis. It also shows that there is relationship between the feeding pattern and health condition of the elderly in Egor Local Government Area. Similarly, there is relationship between socio-economic status and feeding pattern in Egor Local Government Area. The study recommends that the immediate caregiver for the elderly people should ensure proper food consumption pattern are maintained among Elderly in Egor Local Government Area, there should a well arrangement pattern of feeding for old people in Egor Local Government Area and that the middle age people should try to save towards old age and pensioners should be paid their stipend regularly to enhance socio-economic status and feeding pattern in Egor Local Government Area.
