ABSTRACT

This study assessed teaching strategies of adult learners for effective learning outcomes in Egor Local Government Area. This study reviewed relevant related literatures on the topics. One hundred and fifty (150) respondents were randomly selected from five literacy centres, this population constituted the sample size of the study and descriptive statistical tools were used in the analysis. in the course of the study the following findings were made: teaching strategies are being used in literacy centres to improve the quality of teaching and learning. Also, teaching strategies employed by the facilitators are those they have mastery of and adequate enough to convey the curriculum. Another finding was that teaching strategies employed by the facilitators make them understand what is being taught and help to create effective learning activities. Finally, it was also revealed that inadequate teaching aids, inexperienced facilitators, lack of preparation by facilitators before the commencement of classes and overloaded curriculum of instructions to the learners. Also, periodic supervision of adult literacy centres should be carried out to monitor and evaluate the quality and standard of teaching and learning. Also, adult literacy centres in both private and public sectors should 10 be well funded. Lastly, those without educational qualification in adult education should not be employed as facilitators in adult literacy centres to reduce lack of professionalism.
